neograft (hair restoration)

Neograft New York, Hair Restoration NYC

People are often emotionally attached to their hair. Its length, cut, and appearance contributes to our self-image and individuality. Because our sense of style and self-image is so rooted in our hair’s appearance, hair loss can be particularly worrisome, for both men and women. Its loss can affect us emotionally as well as physically. Although less common than male patterned baldness, female patterned hair loss is a prevalent condition that causes much distress. A sense of loss, fading confidence, and lowered self-esteem may accompany male and female pattern hair loss.

Patients considering a solution to hair loss may have been previously deterred from surgical hair transplant because of the scarring and invasiveness associated with traditional methods. Dr. Elie and Jody Levine, however, offer the most advanced hair transplant available at Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC: NeoGraft. With its no incision, no sutures, no scar technique, NeoGraft can reduce risk during surgery, increase the rate of follicle survival, and achieve more natural-looking results without the linear scarring previously associated with hair transplant.*

How is NeoGraft performed?

NeoGraft is performed in our accredited in-office surgical facility using local anesthesia. Although the procedure length varies depending on the amount of follicles being transplanted, NeoGraft can be performed in as little as 3 hours.* Patients remain awake and are able to read, work, or watch TV throughout the entire procedure.

How does NeoGraft differ from other methods of hair restoration, such as the “Strip Method”?

Traditional methods, such as the “Strip Method”, involve a long, linear incision. A strip of scalp is actually removed, the hair follicles are prepared under microscopes, and they are then transplanted to balding locations. NeoGraft, on the other hand, is revolutionizing hair transplantation in New York, utilizing “no-hands” pneumatic pressure to suction individual follicles from the scalp. This technique reduces the need for scalpels, sutures, and handling of follicles. In addition to achieving a “no hands” transfer, NeoGraft keeps the follicles moist while the grafts are prepared, dramatically increasing the follicle survival rate. This method is also less invasive than the traditional Strip Method, allowing patients to experience a reduced risk during surgery and reduced downtime following surgery.*

Who is an ideal candidate for NeoGraft?

Ideal candidates for NeoGraft are patients who display thinning or balding at the crown of their scalp, thinning hair in specific, centralized locations, or a receding hairline but still maintain relatively thick hair at the back of their scalp. Follicles donated from the back of the scalp will be transplanted to thinning locations, so patients who are completely bald are unfortunately not ideal candidates for this procedure.*

What can I expect during NeoGraft?

Once the scalp is anesthetized, Drs. Levine will harvest the individual donor follicles from the thick density of hair displayed at the back of the scalp. The harvested follicles are kept in a warm, moist environment until they are prepared for implantation. Using reverse pneumatic pressure, the donor follicles are transplanted to the thinning locations of scalp at the crown of the head or hairline.

What kind of results can I expect from NeoGraft?

Patients are typically immensely satisfied with their hair transplant results they achieve with Drs. Levine. NeoGraft has revolutionized the medical techniques practiced and aesthetic results possible for hair loss patients. Implanting the follicles individually, as opposed to in strips, increases the precision of follicle placement, allowing for a more natural-looking hairline. NeoGraft also reduces many traditional side-effects of hair transplantation, including popcorn, “plug-like” results, postoperative tight scalp sensation, and a donor site linear scar, proving itself as the superior option for hair restoration.*
