Laser Age Spot Removal & Sun Damage Treatment NYC
Lasers and light-based therapies can be an excellent, non-invasive way to easily and effectively improve sun-damaged skin, remove age spots, and correct unwanted skin pigmentation.
How do lasers treat sun damage and remove age spots?
During treatment, intense light energy is delivered in powerful pulses and absorbed by targeted areas below the skin’s surface, gently breaking up excess skin pigmentation and vascular lesions that are associated with sun-damaged skin and age spots. When excess pigmentation from sun damage is removed from skin on the face, chest, arms, or legs, the skin reflects light more efficiently, giving a youthful and glowing appearance. Heat from the light therapy also stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms, promoting the production of new collagen. This can result in continuing improvement in skin tone and textural appearance in the months following treatment.*
What should I expect during the sun damage and age spot removal procedure?
Sun damage and age spot removal treatments are performed on an outpatient basis in our offices. Most patients tolerate the procedure easily, describing a warming and light snapping sensation during treatment. A numbing cream will be applied before the procedure to ensure maximum comfort. Depending on whether your sun damage consists of red spots, brown spots, or both, Dr. Levine will vary the lasers used and the number of laser passes needed.
What should I expect after sun damage and age spot removal treatment?
You may notice the appearance of tiny dark specks, like mini-freckles, in the treated areas, which will break up and resolve within a few days after the procedure. These can generally be covered up with makeup until they resolve. Proper moisturization and sun protection will be recommended, particularly in the first two weeks after treatment. You may resume your normal activities immediately.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments will vary according to your condition. Usually, 4 to 6 treatments, spaced a month apart, will provide optimal results. Dr. Levine will assess your condition and recommend a treatment schedule that is best suited to your specific needs.
