Breast Implants & Breast Augmentation Surgery New York
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States today. Every year, hundreds of thousands of women turn to breast augmentation to help them attain the feminine figure they’ve always desired. At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, we understand that the decisions you make about breast augmentation are more involved than just choosing what cup size you’d like to be. We’ll work closely with you to help you determine what size and type of breast implant would work best for you, where to position the implant for the most natural looking results, and where to make incisions in order to minimize scarring. Whether you’re interested in increasing breast size, restoring breast shape and volume that may have been lost due to pregnancy or weight fluctuations, or correcting problems with current breast implants, we can help. We use the most advanced breast augmentation techniques to help you achieve a beautiful, balanced, and natural looking figure.*

What type of breast implants do you offer?
We offer both silicone gel and saline-filled implants. Both types of implants can provide excellent, long-lasting results. Dr. Levine will discuss with you the best implant type for your personal preferences and needs, and answer any questions that you may have.*
Where do you place incisions for breast augmentation surgery?
Incisions will be placed carefully within the natural lines of the breast where they will be least noticeable.* Depending on your specific anatomy and preferences, as well as the type of implant you choose, incisions may be placed in one of four areas:
- At the lower border of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple (peri-areolar)
- In the crease between the breast and the chest (infra-mammary fold)
- In the arm pit (axilla)
- In the belly button (peri-umbilical)
Unlike many surgeons who may steer you towards the incision placement that makes them most comfortable, Dr. Levine is highly experienced with all four incision placements, allowing you to choose the incision that best meets your specific needs.
Where do you place breast implants?
In most cases, breast implants will be placed beneath the pectoral muscle in the chest wall. If there are certain anatomical conditions that dictate otherwise, breast implants may also be placed above the muscle, directly behind the breast tissue. Dr. Levine will discuss with you the best placement for your specific needs.
What kind of results can I expect from breast augmentation surgery?
Our patients can experience excellent, long-lasting results from both saline-filled and silicone gel implants. While breast augmentation with implants can result in long-lasting enlargement of the breasts, it’s important to remember that breasts are dynamic organs that transform over time due to natural aging and hormonal changes. With or without implants, you should expect certain changes in the breasts as you age, including changes in breast size, shape, and symmetry.*
Can breast augmentation be combined with other procedures?
Absolutely. Breast augmentation is often combined with a breast lift in order to increase breast size, while improving breast contours and asymmetries. In addition, breast augmentation may also be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as inverted nipple correction, tummy tuck, and liposuction. Dr. Levine will discuss with you what procedures or combination of procedures may best suit your specific needs.
Do you offer breast augmentation with fat transfer?
In most cases, breast augmentation is performed using breast implants. For select patients, breast augmentation may be accomplished through autologous fat transfer (using your own natural fat). During the fat grafting procedure, fat is gently harvested from areas of the body that have fat to spare, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. The fat is then prepared and meticulously re-injected into the breasts. For certain patients, fat grafting may be used for breast augmentation, to correct asymmetries in the breasts, or for breast reconstruction. For further information about fat grafting to the breasts, including whether you would be a good candidate for this procedure, please call 212-988-1800 to make an appointment online for a personal consultation with Dr. Elie Levine.
How can I prepare for breast augmentation surgery?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Levine will examine your breasts to determine their physical condition, the thickness and quality of the skin, and the characteristics of any stretch marks. He will also address your medical history to determine other factors that may affect breast surgery, such as hormonal influences, history of weight fluctuations, and pregnancy. Most women will need a current mammogram (within one year) in order to serve as a baseline for post-operative comparison. Dr. Levine will thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations, including possible risks and the best way to prepare for your surgery. He will let you know what to expect before, during, and after your procedure, and he will answer any questions that you may have.
What type of anesthesia will be used for breast augmentation surgery?
We recommend twilight or general anesthesia for breast augmentation surgery. You will discuss your procedure thoroughly with both Dr. Levine and our board-certified anesthesiologist to determine the best type of anesthesia for your needs.
What can I expect during breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation surgery can be performed in our state-of-the-art, in-office operating suite, which is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). The length of your procedure will depend on many factors, but on average, the procedure usually takes about 1 ½ - 2 hours.* After your procedure, you will wake up in our warm and caring recovery suite, where our licensed, registered nurse will make sure you are comfortable and assist in your recovery. You may return home the same day with a friend or family member.
What can I expect after breast augmentation surgery?
Every surgery is different, and you will receive detailed post-operative instructions for your specific needs. In general, you can expect to have possible bruising, swelling, and tenderness of the breasts for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Most patients report mild to moderate pain after the surgery, which is usually well-tolerated with medications.* At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, our concern for you doesn’t end when you go home. We’re dedicated to providing ongoing care to ensure a fast, safe, and smooth recovery. Dr. Levine will see you for post-operative visits, and he and our staff stand ready to answer any questions you may have about your recovery, as well as your overall health and well-being.
