One of New York’s leading pediatric dermatologists, Dr. Jody Levine is board certified as a dermatologist, as well as a pediatrician. She has extensive expertise in pediatric dermatologic surgery, performing outpatient skin surgery for children in our state-of-the-art, in-office operating suite.  Additionally, Dr. Levine is one of only a few dermatologists who hold hospital surgical privileges, allowing her to perform pediatric surgery at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in a child-friendly, safe environment.

Treatment

When children develop skin growths or lesions, they are often subjected to a series of referrals from their pediatrician to a dermatologist who can diagnose their condition, and finally to a general or plastic surgeon who can surgically remove the growth.  Often, each doctor has experience with only a part of the puzzle. A pediatrician will not have expertise in dermatology; a dermatologist may not perform surgery; and a general or plastic surgeon who usually handles adult patients may not understand the nuances of treatment and aftercare for children.  An experienced pediatric dermatologic surgeon, on the other hand, possesses the medical expertise, diagnostic insight, and specialized surgical skills to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients in need of skin surgery.
