Ear Piercing
Ear Piercing
Ear Piercing New York
Ears should be pierced in a sterile environment in order to minimize the risk of infection. At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, we offer ear piercing for adults, children, and infants. Ear piercing is performed by our board-certified dermatologist in a comfortable, safe, and sterile environment. We use medical-grade, sterile equipment and hypoallergenic earrings. Topical numbing cream is offered to ensure patient comfort.
How should I care for pierced ears?
Earrings must be left in the ears for the first six weeks to ensure proper healing. During this time, you should use a Q-Tip with isopropyl alcohol to clean the pierced area. Turn your earrings twice daily to prevent the earring from adhering to the ear. Do not allow the earrings to become too tight; tight earrings may cause infection. Remember to keep the pierced area dry and clean, and take extra care to avoid snagging the earring on clothing or hairbrushes. You may remove the earrings occasionally after the first six weeks, but do not leave the earrings out for longer than 24 hours during the first six months in order to prevent the holes from closing.*
What are the side effects of ear piercing?
Side effects following ear piercing are not common. Pain, redness, or swelling that lasts more than 24 hours may indicate infection. Should you experience these symptoms, please call the office to arrange for a follow-up appointment.
