Laser Hair Removal in New York, Removing Unwanted Hair
Laser hair removal treatment has become dramatically more effective in recent years. In the past, treatment was limited to people with lighter-toned skin and darker hair. Now, with a variety of advanced lasers at our disposal, we are able to safely treat people with virtually all skin types and hair colors.* At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, we have several different types of lasers specifically designed to treat people with both lighter and darker skin tones, as well as a wide range of hair colors.
The Vectus® Laser For Hair Removal!
For laser hair removal, we provide the Vectus® Laser in-office! The Vectus® Laser can enhance the speed and effectiveness of laser hair removal. Even larger surface areas of the body, such as the back, can be treated quickly and effectively thanks to the Vectus® Laser’s wider attachment and its use of Photon Recycling™ technology.* Photon Recycling™ creates a uniform beam across the skin’s surface, reducing the necessity for overlapping, multiple treatments in a single session. This can allow for a quicker treatment session and less skin irritation without sacrificing quality results.
The Vectus® Laser contains an integrated Skintel™ Melanin Reader™, the only FDA-approved melanin reading technology. Skintel™ quantitatively measures the average melanin density of your skin, so the Vectus® Laser setting is individually determined for your unique skin type. This technology allows Dr. Levine to customize your procedure based on lifestyle, skin type and ethnicity, which can accomplish more effective results without under or over treating your skin type. Additionally, the Vectus® Laser is equipped with Advanced Contact Cooling™ technology. Advanced Contact Cooling™ actively monitors the laser and your skin’s surface during hair removal to protect your epidermis. The Vectus® Laser has revolutionized the speed and effectiveness of laser hair removal which can improve your comfort during treatment, so you can enjoy bare skin, faster and more efficiently than ever before! Utilizing the most advanced technology available, the doctors and staff at Plastic Surgery and Dermatology of NYC ensure that patients achieve transformative results with the least amount of discomfort and downtime possible.*
How does laser hair removal work?
Lasers emit a specialized pulsed light, which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and then transmitted down the hair shaft to the root. The heat from the laser damages the hair follicle and inhibits future hair growth.
Which areas can be treated by laser hair removal?
Lasers can safely remove unwanted hair on almost any part of the body. The most common treatment areas for women include the legs, armpits, face, and bikini line. Men typically treat the neck, upper arms, shoulders, and back. However, all areas that grow hair can be treated.
What should I expect during laser hair removal treatment?
Laser hair removal treatment is performed on an outpatient basis in our offices. Topical numbing cream is applied. Most patients tolerate the procedure easily, describing a light prickling or snapping sensation during treatment. The area should be shaved or the hair cut short prior to treatment. Most patients resume their normal activities immediately following treatment. For the best results, Dr. Levine recommends that you do not wax or pluck hairs for three weeks prior to treatment.
Is laser hair removal safe?
When performed by a physician or other licensed professional with expertise in laser technology, laser hair removal is safe and effective.* At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, we have a wide range of advanced lasers that can treat the full spectrum of skin and hair types. Before your procedure, Dr. Levine will evaluate your skin and hair type and select the best laser for your needs, including the Vectus® Laser, the most efficient hair removal device available. We will also thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations, including possible risks and the best way to prepare for your treatment.
Are the results of laser hair removal permanent?
The results vary, depending on the person and the areas treated. In many cases, hair removal will be long-lasting. In other instances, hair may be significantly reduced, with any remaining hair becoming finer, lighter, and sparser in treated areas. Hormonal shifts in your body may require occasional touch-up treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser hair removal is performed over a series of treatments so that hair can be targeted at different stages of the growth cycle. The number of treatments needed also varies with the area treated. For most, Dr. Levine recommends a series of 6 to 8 treatments, spaced approximately one month apart. Any re-growth can be addressed with periodic touch-up treatments.
