LASER LIPOSUCTION
Laser liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that uses sophisticated laser technology for fat removal and skin tightening in targeted areas. Laser liposuction can offer remarkable results, with minimal swelling and bruising, and significantly less patient downtime than traditional liposuction. While laser liposuction is not intended for large-scale fat removal, it can be an excellent option for shaping and sculpting the face, neck, and body by removing small pockets of excess fat, including fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Laser liposuction can also be used to firm and tighten lax skin, even in areas that don’t need fat removal, such as the neck, upper arms, and buttocks.
How does laser liposuction work?
During laser liposuction, heat from advanced laser energy provides two-fold benefits. First, the laser is used to target excess fatty deposits, working to reduce fat cells, which are then gently suctioned from the body. At the same time, deep heating of dermal collagen stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms, promoting tissue coagulation and skin tightening as collagen fibers contract. Skin continues to firm and tighten in the treated areas over the next several months as the underlying collagen is remodeled.*
What areas can be treated with laser liposuction?
Laser liposuction is an outstanding tool that can target small pockets of excess fat in a wide range of areas, especially trouble spots that are traditionally resistant to diet and exercise. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, buttocks, knees, thighs, hips, back, breasts, upper arms, and neck. Laser liposuction may also be used for skin tightening in areas that don’t necessarily require fat removal, such as the neck, upper arms, and buttocks.
What kind of results can I expect from laser liposuction?
While laser liposuction is not intended to achieve the large-scale fat removal of traditional liposuction or surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty, this minimally invasive procedure can provide excellent, long-lasting results in localized fat removal and skin tightening. Fat is reduced in the treated areas, leading to immediate body contouring benefits. Additionally, skin tightening will continue to improve in the 3 to 6 months following the procedure as the collagen foundation is remodeled.*
Can laser liposuction be combined with other procedures?
Absolutely. Laser liposuction is often combined with other liposuction techniques — including traditional liposuction, VASER® LipoSelection, or power-assisted liposuction — in order to provide the best overall fat removal and body contouring results. Additionally, laser liposuction can be used to enhance the results of other cosmetic procedures, such as fat grafting, breast surgery, facelift, neck lift, tummy tuck, and Cellulaze™ cellulite treatment.
How many treatments will I need for laser liposuction?
Outstanding, long-lasting improvements in both fat removal and skin tightening can be achieved with just one laser liposuction treatment. In some cases, Dr. Levine may recommend combining laser liposuction with other cosmetic procedures to maximize overall results.
What should I expect during the laser liposuction procedure?
The laser liposuction procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in our offices. The length of the procedure will vary, depending on the body areas treated. In most cases, laser liposuction takes about 45 minutes to an hour for each area treated. During the procedure, patients are given a local anesthetic to numb the treatment areas. A tiny incision is made to allow the laser to access the fat layers beneath the skin. The laser can destroy fat cells in the targeted areas. Treated fat will be gently suctioned from the body. During treatment, the laser energy also heats the underlying tissue, promoting collagen remodeling and skin tightening. This will lead to noticeable and long-lasting improvements in skin laxity, as the collagen foundation is strengthened and rebuilt during the months following your procedure.*
What should I expect after the laser liposuction procedure?
Because laser liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure, there is usually only very mild bruising and swelling for about a week after your treatment. Downtime is minimal, with most patients returning to work within a day or two. In some cases, compression garments may be recommended for the first week after treatment.
