Hand Rejuvenation in New York for Aging Hands
When it comes to combating the signs of aging, much attention is paid to facial rejuvenation. But, even if your face looks young, carefree, and refreshed, your hands may still give your true age away. Over time, soft-tissue volume in the hands is gradually depleted during the natural aging process. As a result, the skin becomes loose and wrinkled, and veins and tendons appear more prominent. Environmental factors also play a major role in aging hands. The hands receive as much sun exposure as the face, though they are usually less protected. Sun damage causes textural problems as well as pigmentation issues, such as age spots. At PSD of NYC, we offer a full range of hand rejuvenation treatments that can help restore youthful volume, improve skin texture and tone, and reduce sun damage and age spots.

How can the hands be rejuvenated?
For effective hand rejuvenation, there are two major issues that must be addressed: loss of soft-tissue volume, and problems with skin tone and texture. Dermal fillers and natural fat grafting can help restore volume, while advanced, light-based technologies (BBL) and laser treatments can improve sun-damaged skin, remove age spots, and correct pigmentation problems. Laser skin resurfacing is also an excellent way to improve skin tone and texture, while reducing the signs of aging on the hands.*
How do cosmetic injectables work?
Temporary fillers such as RADIESSE® and Sculptra® can help repair the underlying structure of the skin and replace lost volume. These dermal fillers are injected under the skin in a simple, outpatient procedure, with no patient downtime. Fat grafting uses your own natural fat to provide long-lasting, youthful-looking contours. During the fat grafting process, excess fat is harvested from another area of the body and then carefully re-injected into the hands. Patients experience little to no discomfort and have minimal downtime. Find out more about dermal fillers and fat grafting.*
How does BBL work?
BBL (Broad Band Light) photorejuvenation is an excellent, non-invasive way to improve sun-damaged skin, remove age spots, and correct pigmentation problems on the hands. During treatment, intense light energy is delivered in powerful pulses, gently breaking up excess pigmentation associated with sun-damaged skin and age spots. Heat from the light therapy also encourages the body to produce natural collagen, which can result in continuing improvements in skin tone and texture in the months following treatment. BBL treatment is a simple, outpatient procedure, with no patient downtime.* Find out more about sun damage and age spot removal.
How does laser skin resurfacing work?
Today’s sophisticated laser technology can improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, correct pigmentation issues, and promote vibrant, beautiful, and younger-looking skin. During treatment, laser energy targets both damaged skin at the surface, as well as aging collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. Microscopic wounds are made across a fraction of the treatment area, leaving surrounding tissue unharmed. By limiting skin damage, deep and highly effective skin rejuvenation can be achieved, while minimizing healing time. The heat from the laser also stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms, encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin in the months following the procedure. Found in abundance in young, healthy skin, collagen and elastin provide natural skin firmness and elasticity. Find out more about laser skin resurfacing.
Who is a good candidate for hand rejuvenation treatments?
People who wish to reduce the signs of aging on the hands, restore lost volume, and improve the tone and texture of skin in the hands may be good candidates for hand rejuvenation treatments. Dr. Levine will gladly meet with you to answer your questions about hand rejuvenation.
How can I prepare for hand rejuvenation treatments?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Levine will thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations, including possible risks and the best way to prepare for your treatment. Patients having dermal filler injections or fat grafting should avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen-containing products (such as Advil and Motrin), St. John’s Wort, high doses of vitamin E supplements, and other blood thinners (unless medically necessary) for 1 week prior to treatment in order to minimize the risk of bruising. Patients should also avoid red wine and multivitamins for 2 days prior to treatment.
What should I expect during hand rejuvenation treatment?
Hand rejuvenation treatments are performed in our offices. The length of the procedure will vary, depending on which specific treatments are used. Minor treatment with dermal fillers or BBL photorejuvenation may take less than an hour to complete. More extensive procedures, such as fat grafting, may take between 2-3 hours.* Topical or local numbing is used for hand rejuvenation treatments.
What should I expect after hand rejuvenation treatment?
Every procedure is different, and you will receive detailed post-operative instructions for your specific needs. In general, patients usually report little to no discomfort from hand rejuvenation treatments and can resume normal activities within 24 hours after the procedure.* At Plastic Surgery & Dermatology of NYC, our concern for you doesn’t end when you go home. We’re dedicated to providing ongoing care to ensure a fast, safe, and smooth recovery. Dr. Levine will see you for post-operative visits and will answer any questions you may have about your recovery, as well as your overall health and well-being.
